Suitcase from the 1920s and ephemeral objects
60 cm x 80 cm x 20 cm
Named after Fosforlu Cevriye, the serial novel of 1940’s brave female journalist writer, Suat Dervis, the installation represents protagonist Fosforlu Cevriye’s melancholy love for the man for whom she gave her life whose name she does not even know.
At the end of the novel, Cevriye jumps into the sea with the suitcase belonging to her beloved, whose contents she does not know, in order to prevent his execution and disappears, leaving a phosphorescent trail on the waters in a dark night. The suitcase, which represents Cevriye’s death, reveals the identity of the nameless man and allows us to enter his world.
