The Nature of Things, 2022
Antique wooden essential oil box and old miniature dollhouse toys
19,5 cm x 30 cm x 22 cm
Young Art: 8th Contemporary Art Project Competition, Honorable Mention
The installation “The Nature of Things” was inspired by the poem by Ahmet Hamdi Tanpinar titled “Everything In Its Right Place”, where the author attributed a state of emotion to things and struggled with the concept of time. Old miniature dollhouse toys exhibited in an antique wooden essential oil box from the 1950s portray the calmness described in the poem, where time and space freezes and where everything is in its right place. The installation where familiar and everyday objects are exhibited at an unusually small scale, raises questions about fictional life, just as Tanpinar does in his poem. The unique triangular shaped lids of the essential oil box invoke the feeling of being under the same roof while its glass walls indirectly allow us to enter the world of the poem.
