Imitation of Life, 2020
Siesta Tiffany chair and reproduced roly-poly toys
45 cm x 50 cm x 85 cm
Walter Benjamin put forward that even the most perfect reproduction of a work of art lacks its presence in time and space as its aura. The installation investigates creativity, genuineness, authorship and uses a well-known object from the 80’s, a roly-poly toy to bring to mind battles individuals fight in life which embraces the old modernist tradition to investigate the nature of definition of art itself. It questions how or whether representations refer to authenticity.
